Congress, JD(S) blamed for the byelections

Karwar: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa led a rally of the Bharatiya Janata Party workers in Karwar on Wednesday as part of campaigning for the party’s candidate for the byelection, Anand Asnotikar, Minister for Fisheries.

Ministers such as Janardhan Reddy, C.M. Udasi and Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri; MLAs Lalaji Mendon, Lakshminarayan, Anand Singh and Sureshbabu and a large number of party workers participated in the rally that began from Kodibag and ended at Netaji Circle after passing through the main roads of Karwar.

Addressing a gathering at Netaji Circle, Mr. Yeddyurappa said that the BJP would win the Karwar seat.

Mr. Asnotikar joined the BJP to save the Government, and people of the constituency should re-elect him, Mr. Yeddyurappa said.

Later, the Chief Minister told presspersons that the winter session of the State legislature would be held in Belgaum from January 16 to 26. Holding of a session of the legislature in North Karnataka would help in achieving overall development of the region, he said. Referring to the criticism by former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda on the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor project being executed by Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises (NICE), the Chief Minister said that permission was given to NICE to execute the project by the Congress government.

And land was acquired for the project when the JD(S) was in power, he said. It was strange that both the parties were now blaming the BJP Government, Mr. Yeddyurappa said.

If Mr. Gowda was serious about the allegations he had made, then he should approach the Lokayukta, Mr. Yeddyurappa said.

He exuded confidence that Mr. Asnotikar would win the byelection by huge margin. He blamed the Congress and the JD(S) for the byelections in the State and said that had the two parties not tried to destabilise the BJP Government, these MLAs would not have resigned.
