TERI inks deal with Mexican institute

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: To devise energy efficient policies and technologies of renewable energies and their usage in India and Mexico,

The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) and the Centre for Innovation and Renewable Energy (CIRE), Mexico City signed a memorandum of understanding on Wednesday.

Director General of TERI R.K. Pachauri, Chairman of National Knowledge Commission Sam Pitroda, Ambassador of Mexico in India Rogelio Granguillhome Morfín, and representative of the Government of Mexico Manuel Camacho were present at the signing of the MoU.

Committing TERI’s support to CIRE in helping develop environment-friendly energy solutions, Dr. Pachauri said: “TERI is overwhelmed by the Mexican Government’s response to partner with the Centre for Innovation and Renewable Energy, Mexico City. We are sure that through such strong government support and partnerships a lot can be achieved in combating the dangers of climate change globally.”

Mr. Pitroda said the CIRE, having obtained the right talents, infrastructure and political support, will be a vital link between companies, markets and knowledge centres, especially in the Latin American countries.

Mexican Government representative Mr. Camacho for his part referred to the environmental chaos that Mexico faced in the mid-80’s. “The CIER must be a centre of excellence that promotes and fosters the entailment between academy, industry and government to impel the technological development,” he said.

As per the MoU TERI will work closely with CIRE in the areas of human resources and infrastructure development; working out the research agenda and its plan of action so that the aims of CIRE are met.
