THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Hundreds of faithful attended midnight service at churches to mark Christmas celebrations in the city on Thursday. At St. Mary’s Cathedral, Pattom, the midnight mass which began at 10.30 p.m. was led by Baselios Cleemis, Major Archbishop, Malankara Catholic Church. He delivered the Christmas message during the sermon. At Palayam St. Joseph Cathedral, Archbishop of Latin Catholic Diocese M. Susaipakiyam led the prayers. He also delivered the Christmas message during the sermon. At St. Peters Cathedral near Punnan Road, the service was led by C. George Elluvila. The service at Lourdes Church, PMG, which started around 11 p.m., was lead by Vicar John V. Thadathil. Several worshippers used the occasion to enjoy a midnight stroll through the city. Meat stalls remained open till early in the morning. Churches in the city wore a festive look with illuminated Christmas stars, trees and cribs adorning the premises. Chandy’s greetingLeader of Opposition Oommen Chandy in a statement issued on Wednesday wished the public a merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
