HYDERABAD: A delegation of leaders of the Opposition Telugu Desam, CPI, CPI (M) and TRS, met the Governor, N. D. Tiwari on Wednesday and appealed to him to summon for examination and safe custody of all files relating to “large scale corruption by persons occupying high positions in the State”. The delegation included TDP president, N. Chandrababu Naidu, P. Madhu (CPI-M), Chada Venkat Reddy (CPI) and E. Rajender (TRS) told the Governor that the files could be tampered. They wanted the Governor to direct the government to register individually and investigate at all places in districts where the Fisheries Department Engineer, V. Suryanarayana had executed works of various departments. They also sought removal of the Cabinet Ministers allegedly involved in favouring Mr. Suryanarayana and the Chief Secretary and send a detailed report to Central Government. They complained that there has been gross failure of rule of law and complete collapse of administrative machinery resulting in large-scale misappropriation of public funds. JustificationAndhra Pradesh Congress Committee president D. Srinivas has made light of corruption charges against some Ministers whose names figured in the “irregularities” committed by Fisheries Department Executive Engineer V. Suryanarayana in securing contracts from various departments. The charges are aimed at defaming the Congress ahead of elections and they will be proved wrong once the commission of inquiry gives its report. Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, the APCC president defended the clean chit given by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy to Ministers and Chief Secretary P. Ramakanth Reddy claiming that Dr. Reddy would not have made the remarks without reason.
