PANAJI: After an extensive review of the security arrangements in Goa ahead of Christmas and New Year celebrations, Union Minister of State for Home Shriprakash Jaiswal on Wednesday expressed full satisfaction over the steps in place and sought to reassure Goans as well as people from within the country and abroad that they should visit Goa without any apprehensions and participate in the celebrations. “Goa is peaceful, there is no threat of any kind for Goa, there is no need for any panic,” Mr. Jaiswal told presspersons after attending a security meeting at the State police headquarters. He was accompanied by Goa Chief Minister Digambar Kamat and Home Minister Ravi Naik. Additional securityThe Union Minister pointed out that the Centre had provided additional paramilitary personnel for Goa. He denied that there were any specific terror threats to Goa, but justified the high security in view of the recent terror strikes in Mumbai. “Why only in Goa, we are taking these security measures in all nook and corner of the country to make people feel safe and secure,” he said.
