TDP to annul SEZ pact if voted to power

Staff Reporter

Kakinada: The Telugu Desam Party has announced that it will not hesitate to annul the agreement signed for setting up of special economic zone at Kakinada when it comes back to power.

TDP Parliamentary Party leader K. Yerrannaidu, who called on the agitating farmers against “forcible acquisition” of their lands, announced that the TDP was committed to return the lands that had been acquired from farmers. The lands for the SEZ acquired in the name of a private developer exposed the “shady deals” of the Government in the name of the SEZs.

Recalling the haste with which the Centre had cleared the proposals sent by the State Government for setting up SEZs, he alleged that Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and some of his close aides were “sleeping partners” in a majority of the SEZs that were coming up. The SEZs had turned out to be profitable real estate ventures, he said.
