Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The Telugu Association of North America (TANA) is organising a mega event ‘TANA Chaitanya Sravanthi-2008’ to celebrate recognition accorded to Telugu as a classical language at Ravindra Bharathi here on Saturday.

The biennial event will also see cultural programme by differently-abled artistes from various fields. It will also organise contests for physically-challenged sportspersons and present ‘Gidugu Rama Murthy Award’ for significant contribution for promotion of Telugu language.

Giving details of the conference to media persons here on Thursday, TANA president-elect and interim president Jayaram Komati and secretary Prasad Thotakura recalled TANA’s struggle for achieving classical language status for Telugu.

A discussion would be held with eminent Telugu scholars to formulate a plan for further promotion of the language.
