Officials pulled up for failure to spend funds

Staff Reporter

BHIMAVARAM: L.B. Subramanyam, Principal Secretary, Medical and Health Department, on Friday took serious view of the alleged failure by the department personnel in spending the funds sanctioned under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) in the current fiscal.

Speaking at a review meeting here, he said action would be initiated against the officials responsible for lapsing of funds if they failed to utilize the amounts by the end of the current year. The NRHM was intended to extend financial support to the states for improvement of sanitation and rural health services. Mr. Subramanyam said the State government had decided to cancel deputations in the Medical and Health department as part of the endeavour to make available the department personnel to the people in emergency. Department Director P. Rameshchandra said the Department had sent proposals for construction of 61 primary health centres in the State in the current year. Efforts were underway for filling of 500 doctor posts in government hospitals.
