Shop owner arrested for ‘driving girl to suicide’

ADILABAD: Town police on Friday arrested Sk. Hafiz, a kirana shop owner of Khanapur locality, on charge of rape, confinement and driving a girl from the same locality commit suicide.
The girl in question allegedly committed suicide by setting herself afire late on Thursday unable to bear the humiliation caused to her on December 20. Two Town Sub-Inspector K. Purushottam Reddy said that in a complaint, Hafiz had been accused of confining the girl, who had gone to a shop for groceries on that day. He took her to a nearby building which was under construction and allegedly raped her. The girl had been under mental stress since then.
Meanwhile, BJP activists and residents of Khanapur staged a dharna in front of the police office demanding stringent action against the accused .
