HYDERABAD: Congress MP from Rajahmundry Vundavalli Arun Kumar has said that the Left parties owed an answer to the people of the State for entering into an ‘alliance’ with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP). “Does the new-found alliance between these parties indicate that the CPI (M) and the CPI have forgiven TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu’s policies during his nine-year rule,” Mr Arun Kumar asked at a press conference here on Friday in reference to the TDP-Left conclave at Nalgonda. Quoting from the booklets published by the Left parties against the then TDP government, the Congress MP wondered how they could join hands with a leader, who had dumped them unceremoniously to join hands with the BJP. He recalled Mr. Naidu’s statements questioning the policies of the Left parties and advising them to welcome globalisation and economic reforms. To a question, he said even if all the political parties in the State came together, they would find it difficult to defeat the Congress. “It is just impossible for these parties to prevent the Congress party from retaining power,” he said. “Massive welfare and development programmes initiated by the Rajasekhara Reddy government have endeared him to the people. Rural folks are treating him as part of their family,” he remarked.
