NEW DELHI: Air services between India and South Africa will be expanded soon. Home Minister P. Chidambaram told journalists here that the Cabinet on Friday approved a Civil Aviation Ministry proposal to have a revised accord in the place of the existing one. The revised agreement would signify “an important landmark in civil aviation relations between India and South Africa. It has the potential to spur greater trade, investment, tourism and cultural exchange.” Under the existing agreement, signed in December 1998, the designated airlines of the two countries, Air India and South African Airways, are each allowed to operate 14 flights a week. It allows the designated carriers to operate any type of aircraft with a maximum seat limit of 5,600 per week.
