Kakinada: They are all settled in different places of the globe but their sense of belongingness to the institution which shaped their careers 25 years ago, made them converge here to take a collective trip down the memory lane. When they came together, their faces were writ large with happiness as they would have never expected to assemble at the same place where their heydays of life had gone by. This is the tale of about old 150 students of the JNTU College of Engineering Kakinada (JNTU-CEK) of the 1979-83 batch whose Silver jubilee reunion was the one that pumped up the adrenalin as they exchanged pleasantries and shared their experiences of all the eventful years. Most of the participants were engineers and technocrats settled in the USA. Some were from Britain and the Middle East. Their mission was however the same: pay back to the institution where they took the first faltering steps towards successful careers in diverse fields. Many of them turned up with their children, who got the opportunity to listen to how their parents had played the mischief at college while staying glued to their goals. Addressing the gathering, JNTU, Kakinada Vice-Chancellor Allam Appa Rao said great Universities all over the world were built with not just cement and bricks but with the love and affection of its alumni who make the institutions proud. He therefore expected them to contribute their mite to the development of JNTU, Kakinada (formerly JNTU-CEK) not necessarily in cash but by way of lending their expertise to promotion of R&D which has a lot to be desired. I would like the alumni to spend their sabbatical at their mother institution (JNTU, Kakinada) so that their bond with it becomes stronger and guides youngsters in laying their paths to success, Prof. Appa Rao added. JNTU, Kakinada Registrar V Ravindra, JNTU-CEK principal E.V. Prasad, vice-principal B Prabhakar Rao and others were present.
