Party committed to enforcing discipline Its poll plank is to root out corruption Kakinada: The Praja Rajyam party (PRP) has got a groundswell of support from the people but it should avoid scoring a self-goal in order to defeat Congress and TDP in the ensuing elections. The party has all plus points but internal squabbles were taking their toll. It would be foolish for PRP to expect to put up a good fight without having its own house in order, said PRP leader K Nagababu. Addressing a party meeting here on Saturday, Mr. Nagababu said those forming groups would be dealt with sternly by the party high command as it was spoiling the chances of PRP staging a creditable performance in the elections. The PRP was so committed to enforcing discipline that it was not hesitant to sideline even Mr. Nagababu or Pavan Kalyan (though they are brothers of the party president K. Chiranjeevi). All PRP leaders and activists should set aside their personal aspirations and they have to understand that only a handful of them would be chosen as contestants. Mr. Nagababu said that the PRP was going for elections with social justice, rooting out corruption, women’s empowerment and other such lofty ideals constituting its election plank. It was therefore imperative that collective efforts are made to repose the people’s confidence and to achieve that the party should have no chink in its armour. Also because both the Congress and TDP were battle-hardened, notwithstanding the fact they have been able to win successive elections not through popular mandate but by dubious means. The PRP leader regretted that corruption has become all pervasive and said that it required Herculean efforts to change the system which failed to extend the benefits of development to the targeted sections. It’s a major challenge that has to be faced together by the people and political parties but what has emerged from the main parties all these years was empty rhetoric rather. PRP has the commitment to put an end to this social malaise but its leader Chiranjeevi’s hands got to be strengthened, Mr. Nagababu added. PRP leaders Jyotula Venkateswara Rao, R. Surya Kalyan Ram and others were present.
