Rs.1.22 crore subsidy allocated for farmers in Tiruvarur district

TIRUVARUR: The State Government has allocated Rs.1.22 crore subsidy to the farmers in the Cauvery delta region of Tiruvarur district for purchase of agricultural implements through the Agriculture Engineering department for 2008-09, said M.Chandrasekaran, Collector, on Sunday.
The Collector said that the subsidy would be provided under the National Agriculture Development Programme (NADP) and pointed out that 50 per cent subsidy would be given for purchase of small agriculture implements (transplanter, weed removers, etc) worth Rs.2.50 lakh and 33 per cent subsidy and a maximum of Rs. 4 lakh for purchase of big farm equipment like harvester.
The Collector said that the farmers could get details from the 10 agricultural extension centres in the district and from the agriculture engineering department. He pointed out that the subsidy was given to promote farm mechanisation in the district.
