For almost 14 years, she has been sticking to facts. Almost on daily basis, she would appear on telly and keep viewers abreast with happenings across the globe. And now after carving a niche for herself as news anchor, Pragathi has donned a new avatar. The most popular news presenter of Telugu telly is facing the camera to exhibit her emoting skills with the serial ‘Savirahe’. A concept from Annapoorna studios for Maa TV, the serial for the first time has managed to lure Pragathi to act. Thus from looking straight into the camera and read out the news, these days she has also slipped into a different role, that of enacting a role. Having resisted offers for acting both on small and big screen all these years, it’s a different experience for her. “Acting is different and doing news is different. It is an experience in itself and I am enjoying it,” she says. The celebrated host of news segments indeed like challenges. “About 25 to 30 news bulletins a month apart I take care of the academy which impart training to new talent and in between, decided to take up acting assignment,” she smiles. Pragathi over the years evolved a presentation style that has won admiration both from the industry and viewers. Now with acting, she has set her sight on a new target. All these years of experience with bulletins does not come to aid in acting, she is aware. “This is a new role, a small experiment that I have taken up”. Should one look forward to catching up with her on the silver screen too? “There have been offers but perhaps a really challenging assignment might get me interested,” Pragathi adds. T. LALITH SINGH
