Towards branding the Transport Department

Anil Kumar Sastry

BANGALORE: Are you finding it difficult to locate a Regional Transport Office (RTO) in a new locality? Or are you unable to get data regarding total number of road accidents in Karnataka?

You may not face such difficulties in future as the Transport Department is working towards addressing such issues.

To make people’s work at RTOs easy and hassle free, branding of the department is under way by providing a logo and uniform colour schemes.

The department, which hitherto made use of the State emblem as its logo, has got a specially designed logo with multiple ‘Ts’. The ‘T’ symbolises the department and will be present in all the nomenclature, including name boards of offices, letterheads, visiting cards, files and all other stationery, said a source in the department.

The department would have launched the branding exercise by now but for the non-availability of Transport Minister R. Ashok in view of the byelections, the source said. Like police stations across the State, RTOs, ARTOs and other offices of the Transport Department will have uniformly designed name boards. “We have initiated this measure considering the hardship faced by people to locate our offices,” the source said. The size and shape of name boards, font size, language and colours would be uniform across the State.

Inside the RTOs, specific colour codes will be adopted for different sections. Yellow colour will denote “transport section” (vehicles used for public transport) and green will denote “non-transport section” (private vehicles).

The colour scheme, the source said, would help people in reaching the required section easily and get their work done. Similarly, all letterheads and visiting cards would have the logo prominently displayed on them.

The department has also got a new interactive website designed by the National Informatics Centre. The new website contains a lot of information on the working of the department.

The new website retains many details the old website had, including provisions of the Motor Vehicle Act and procedures to be followed at RTOs. It also has statistics of vehicles registered in the State, revenue collection and accidents, among others.
