dated December 29, 1958: Indirect taxes

Speaking at the twelfth annual general meeting of the Engineering Association of India in Bombay on December 27 Mr. S.K. Patil, Union Minister for Transport and Communication, asked the trade and industry in the country to be prepared to shoulder a greater measure of indirect taxation to help the nation in implementing its various development projects. Trade and industry, he said, should not complain about indirect taxes as they not only lessened the number of direct taxes but also helped to levy them only on a certain section of society which derived certain benefits.
