Awards announced

CHENNAI: Former Vice-Chancellor of Madras University Porko has been selected for this year’s Ayyan Thiruvalluvar award.

The government on Sunday announced winners of various awards for 2008: Film director and IAS officer Gnana Rajasekaran – Thanthi Periyar award, senior Congress leader A. Gopanna – Perunthalaivar Kamarajar award, A. Maraimalayan – Arignar Anna award, senior journalist Solai – Ambedkar award, R. Manian – Bharathiyar award, S.P. Arulanandan – Thiru.Vi.Ka award, Tamizhachi Thangapandian – Bharathidasan award and Prof Pazhamalai –K.A.P.Viswanatham award.

The awardees will get Rs. 1 lakh each and a gold medal. The awards will be presented on January 15, Thiruvalluvar day.
