Wind energy comes to TNEB’s rescue

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission has lauded the wind energy sector for having come to the rescue of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board during the peak wind season.

Perusing the figures of load shedding and wind energy generation during April-October 2008, the Commission, in its recent order, said that but for wind energy, the State would have had to face severe load shedding, or the TNEB would have been compelled to buy costly power from other sources. According to the data recorded by the TNEB grid between April and October, the ideal frequency of 50 hertz was attained for a few moments only once in April, thrice in June, once in July, six times in August and once each in September and October.

The facts established that wind energy came to the rescue of the Board, averting a crisis, the Commission said.
