Workshop held on ‘Strategic planning and academic leadership’ Emphasis laid on continuous internal and external assessments Kakinada: Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU), Kakinada has set for itself an ambitious goal to become a world class institution but the task is formidable as it has multiple objectives, which have to be achieved with a holistic approach to utilise its strengths and dispensing with the weaknesses that result in the goal posts shifting rather than the players. It is therefore imperative that the university takes up a scientific assessment of the entire gamut of issues as it makes the journey from where it started off as JNTU College of Engineering to where it is destined, to make its mark on the world stage, said Vice-Chancellor Allam Appa Rao. Addressing the inaugural function of a workshop on ‘Strategic planning and academic leadership’ here on Monday, Prof. Appa Rao said the university had embarked on the strategic planning exercise a few months ago but being aware of the fact that a strategic plan alone could not foretell exactly what issues would surface, it accords greater priority to strategic innovation which should be the cornerstone for any organisation to steer its clear of the turbulence prevalent all over. Greater emphasis was laid on continuous internal and external assessments to successfully reach the goals Later, D.N. Sinha of PJ Encon Services, Visakhapatnam gave a presentation on the concept of ‘Insurance coverage for affiliated colleges and students’, D.K. Gautam of International Council of Quality Education and Research dwelt on ‘Quality education- international accreditations’, former principal of P.R. Government College M.V. Bharata Lakshmi spoke on the ‘Importance of soft skills’ for teachers and Christopher J Kaufman of Agovia Consulting Inc. and Raghu B Korrapati of Computer Science Corporation, USA outlined the future road map for the JNT University, Kakinada.
