Government still calling for tenders for new irrigation projects, he says UPA has failed to implement the common minimum programme KHAMMAM: The TDP and the Left parties had come together only to fight the government on issues of public interest and the unity moves that commenced with their campaign against corruption culminated in the alliance, said the leaders of the three parties here on Monday. Addressing a “Rajakiya Sammelanam” here they pledged their support for the cause of the poor and the disadvantaged. Kadiyam Srihari, TDP leader said that the alliance was not dished out of any political opportunism. It was the need of the hour to save the State from the corrupt rule of the Congress party. The Congress leadership had failed to fulfil the promises and the people had turned averse to the government. He said that the Congress leaders who had been questioning the alliance between the TDP and the Left parties should be better aware of the compulsions that made them to unite against the ruling party. Irrigation projectsMr. Srihari said that the government was still in the process of calling tenders for new irrigation projects despite the fact that there was no significant progress in the works taken up on the irrigation projects taken up under the Jala yagnam. The progress in the implementation of housing and other developmental programmes was more or less dismal. Puvvada Nageswara Rao, MLC and CPI leader said the four and half years of the UPA rule witnessed a greater shift in the stand of the country in respect of relations with US. India had opted to sign the nuclear pact with the US though it was strongly opposed by the Left parties. The UPA has failed to implement the common minimum programme. It had finally failed to sever ties with the Left parties instead of fulfilling its commitments. The country was facing a greater threat from the terrorists than ever before and it was proved beyond any doubt with the Mumbai attacks. The CPI (M) leader, P. Madhu said that CPI (M), CPI and the TDP would expose the government on its corrupt deals. Thummala Nageswara Rao, TDP district president, Thammineni Veerabhadram, MLA and CPI (M) Central Committee member, P. Sudarshan Rao, CPI (M) district secretary and Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao, CPI district Secretary were among those who took part.
