‘Kadidal Manjappa was a true Gandhian’

Remembrance: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa releasing the books on Kadidal Manjappa at a function held at Harogolige in Tirthahalli taluk on Monday.

SHIMOGA: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on Monday hailed the former Chief Minister the late Kadidal Manjappa as a rare politician having imbibed the highest qualities in life.

Speaking at the concluding function of the year-long birth centenary celebrations of Manjappa at his native village of Harogolige in Tirthahalli taluk, Mr. Yeddyurappa said that his selfless contribution to the public life would be remembered for long.

Terming Manjappa as a true Gandhian, he said that there was a lot for the elected representatives to learn from the great leader who set highest standards for others to emulate.

Mr. Yeddyurappa hailed Shimoga as a unique district for having produced the great political leaders such as Shantaveri Gopalagowda and Kadidal Manjappa who served society with a sense of dedication. He said that he would make sincere efforts to find solution to the people’s problems.

He said that people would remember for long the contribution of Manjappa not only as Chief Minister and Minister for Revenue and Public Works but also as a selfless worker.

He said that his initiative in bringing land reforms spoke of his genuine concern for the welfare of the poor tenants as they aimed at the abolition of the pernicious tenancy system.

Mr. Yeddyurappa released five books including “Nanasagada Kanasu” (unfulfilled dream) an autobiography of Manjappa.

Rajya Sabha Member and former Supreme Court Judge M. Rama Jois said that it was his dedicated and selfless work that had made Manjappa a source of inspiration to the elected representatives. MLA from Tirthahalli Kimmane Rathnakar presided over the function.

Director of Kannada and Culture Manu Baligar spoke on the contribution of Manjappa to the public life. Secretary of Kannada and Culture B.R. Jayaramraje Urs welcomed the gathering.

Srikala, daughter of Manjappa, spoke on the occasion. Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Pandey proposed a vote of thanks.
