Dravidar Kazhagam stages stir

Staff Reporter

TIRUNELVELI: Thirteen Dravidar Kazhagam activists were arrested here on Monday when they staged a demonstration in front of Tirunelveli railway junction in protest against the ‘creamy layer issue’.

Led by party functionary David Chelladurai and senior party leader P. Mariappan alias Sirpi Pama, the protestors raised slogans against introducing ‘creamy layer’ system while giving reservation to Other Backward Community in Central Government educational institutions and job opportunities

Since the ‘creamy layer’ system was against social justice, the Centre should withdraw the system immediately and introduce a suitable amendment in this regard. As the protest was held without obtaining permission from the police, they were arrested and released later.
