Pathanamthitta
Show of strength: Nair Service Society leaders P.K. Narayana Panicker, G. Sukumaran Nair, P.N. Narendranathan Nair and R. Balakrishna Pillai leading a rally in Pathanamthitta on Monday. PATHANAMTHITTA: The Nair Service Society (NSS) has reiterated its resolve to fight against the forces opposing social justice to the economically backward among the upper caste sections of society. NSS general secretary P.K. Narayana Panicker and assistant secretary G. Sukumaran Nair addressed a mammoth rally held here on Monday. Mr. Sukumaran Nair said the NSS had always opposed the “unjust” reservation policy pursued by both the Centre and the State. Social justice should be ensured as guaranteed under the Constitution, he said. He warned political parties not to take the NSS policy of maintaining equi-distance from all parties as its weakness. Mr. Sukumaran Nair described as “hollow” the stand taken by Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan on the reservation issue. Mr. Sukumaran Nair said the NSS had always stood for better social conditions and its founder Mannathu Padmanabhan was in the forefront of agitation seeking temple entry for all backward sections of society. P.N. Narendranathan Nair, NSS treasurer, presided over the meeting. R. Balakrishna Pillai, Kalanjoor Madhu and M. Ayyappan Pillai, NSS director board members and N. Somanathan Nair and Vazhamuttom Mohan, taluk union office-bearers, also spoke.
