Jute workers hold dharna
Correspondent
VIZIANAGARAM: The four-hour dharna by Nellimarla jute workers at the Collector’s Office on Monday passed off peacefully. The jute workers had been on indefinite strike for over 100 days demanding that the management, as per the agreement, pay gratuity to employees who retired a few years ago. The workers under the aegis of the IFTU took out a huge rally from the fort junction via NCS Theatre to the Collector’s Office in the afternoon and squatted on the road. J.V. Chalapathi Rao, M. Gopalam and K. Sanyasi Rao of IFTU condemned the “indifferent” attitude of the management and the government.
They suspended the dharna after 4 pm when the Collector promised to take up the issue with the management.
