This Day That Age
The necessity for giving English an important place in the curriculum of studies because of its indispensability in scientific and technological studies and its value as an international language, was stressed at the ninth session of the All-India English Teachers’ Conference, in Madras, on December 29, by Mr. Bishnuram Medhi, Governor of Madras, who inaugurated the conference. Mr. Rajagopalachari, in the course of his message, said: “I am glad that there has been a great awakening throughout the country about the importance of English and its development in the scheme of high school and university education. All our teachers and professors now appear to be not lacking in the courage to speak out what does not quite coincide with the slogan of politicians.”
