Crime rate on the rise in Guntur district

GUNTUR: The crime rate in Guntur district is on the rise over the past three years and considering the figures for only 11 months for current year also, it does not paint any happy picture.
Compared to 146 murders in 2006, in 2007 it rose to 153 and during current calendar year the number so far is 140 with another seven murder for gain till November-end. In the case of attempt to murder, while 85 cases were registered in 2006, in 2007 they were 146 and 164 this year. The number of rape cases also went up from 36 last year to 44 this year.
In a statistical data released by the District Crime Records Bureau of Guntur Police, they said that there were 1,030 ordinary thefts compared to 1,034 last year. Property recovery was higher at Rs.2.18 crore compared to Rs.2.15 crore in 2007.
