SABARIMALA: The Legislative Committee on Petitions chaired by V. Surendran Pillai has stressed the need for developing the Pampa-Marakkoottom Swami Ayyappan Road leading to the Sabarimala Sannidhanam without any further delay.

Mr. Pillai, accompanied by the committee members, M.K. Premnath, K.Raju and C.H. Kunjambu, visited the Sabarimala Sannidhanam on Tuesday.

The committee chairman said the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) should take steps to complete the development of the Chandranandan Road as soon as possible.

He said the authorities should also take urgent measures to install an under-body scanning system for vehicles that pass through the Chalakkayam toll gate with a view to ensure the safety of pilgrims visiting Sabarimala, especially in the backdrop of the terrorist threat facing various pilgrim centres in the country.

The committee maintained that unauthorised vendors and beggars should be removed from Sabarimala as well as the trekking path.

It said all workers at the Aravana-Appam prepration and packing units should be provided with uniforms, gloves, mouth masks and caps. The Civil Supplies authorities should take effective steps to check food adulteration and sale of stale food at Sabarimala.

The committee was of the view that Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) should review the tariff fixed for the electricity supplied to TDB at Sabarimala.

The committee chairman said the cleaning of Erumely canal was the need of the hour
