Raichur: Minister for Adult Education, Libraries, Small Savings and Lottery K.Shivangouda Naik on Tuesday said that he would concentrate on the development of his constituency, to make Deodurga a “model taluk” in the State.

Speaking after the announcement of results for the Deodurga byelection here, he said Deodurga had always been considered the most backward region in the State. There was a need to take up effective steps for faster development of all sectors. He said that he would bring more programmes to improve basic facilities such as drinking water and roads in the constituency. He would give importance to strengthening of education system from the primary school level to improve the literacy rate which was the lowest in the State. Mr. Shivangouda Naik said that he would lay stress on the improvement of irrigation facility under the Narayanapura Right Bank Canal of Upper Krishna Project and ensure speedy implementation of other pending lift irrigation projects in his constituency. Refuting the charge levelled by the Opposition parties that the Bharatiya Janata Party had won the seat by misusing power, he said that his party had never used money or power to gain victory in byelections. He had won the seat as people in the constituency had faith in Chief Minister B.S.Yeddyurappa, he said. They had voted him to power again with a hope that he would take up their demands with the Government and solve their problems.
