Unexpected visitor: R & B Minister T. Jeevan Reddy listening to a complaint of a Government Girls High School student who barged into the DRC meeting in Adilabad on Tuesday.

ADILABAD: Minister for Roads and Buildings and Adilabad district in charge T. Jeevan Reddy on Tuesday turned down the proposal for moving a resolution in favour of separate Telangana made by Zilla Parishad Chairman Rathod Ramesh. He said the issue should be taken up at a much higher level than the District Review Committee.

Presiding over the year’s last DRC, Mr. Jeevan Reddy wondered as to what made Mr. Rathod Ramesh (TDP) take up the cause of Telangana at this stage. He said Congress men from Telangana had for long been protagonists of the region.

Cotton purchase

During the discussion on cotton, Adilabad M A. Indrakaran Reddy said the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) had issued permission to open two more purchase centres at Bellampalli and Nirmal. This would remove the bottlenecks in purchase of cotton by CCI that were brought to notice by Sirpur MLA Koneru Konappa and Adilabad legislator C. Ramchander Reddy.

On the Babli project issue, Mr. Jeevan Reddy said the matter would be dealt with appropriately by the State government. The government was equally concerned about the matter, he said.

The DRC passed a resolution urging the government to enhance compensation to crop lost during the August floods.

The Minister had laid foundation stones for buildings to house a technical training centre, the zilla samakhya and a hostel for students of Government Girls Junior College. Labour Minister G. Vinod also attended the meeting.

Student’s complaint

A student of Government Girls High School took everyone by surprise when she barged into the meeting alleging ill-treatment being meted out by a teacher.
