A.P. parties hail High Court verdict on road shows

BJP, Lok Satta favour all-party meet for consensus on directives

TRS expresses reservation over restrictions

CPI, CPI(M) concur with verdict

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh High Court’s order lifting the stay on the conduct of road shows by political parties evoked a mixed response.

Welcoming the ruling, all the political parties concurred with the High Court’s observation that the inconvenience caused to the common man and traffic be minimised. The Bharatiya Janata Party and the Lok Satta Party, however, demanded that the government convene an all-party meeting to evolve a consensus among the political parties on the implementation of the High Court’s directives. The Telangana Rashtra Samiti too is understood to have expressed reservations over the restrictions imposed on road shows claiming that lifting the stay would not amount to according permission to conduct road shows as long as such restrictions were in place.

But Telugu Desam Party was cautious and its spokesman said it would react only after studying the order thoroughly. Hailing the ruling on the conduct of the road shows, APCC general secretary Nadendla Manohar said the ruling party was not opposed to road shows as was being made out by the Opposition. However, it wanted such events to be conducted as per the democratic norms.

The CPI and the CPI (M) said the restrictions imposed by the court on the conduct of road shows were realistic and wanted the government to adopt an unbiased attitude in giving permissions.

‘Welcome sign’

The Praja Rajyam opined that the conditions imposed by government were stringent, but said the ruling was a welcome sign for democratic process in the State.
