Election verdicts

The verdict in Bangladesh and in the Indian States, and the voter turnout in Kashmir indeed indicate that the people of South Asia are catching up with the real spirit of the enlightenment era product — democracy for the development of people. Collective actions/movements based on religious and cultural ideologies as well as ultra-nationalism are getting rejected by the people, as they are moving closer towards bread and butter and standard of life issues.

The fate of the BJP will be no better than that of the Bangladesh National Party if the secular democratic pro-development forces play an honest effort to reach out to the people with clarity in their agendas. India needs to play a more active role in the subcontinent towards modernisation of societies, considering that the civilian government in Pakistan appears to be understanding the times.
