New quarters for police personnel

Tirupur: New quarters for the police personnel and station buildings in lieu of dilapidated ones has been planned in Tirupur which has been notified as district and the inauguration set to take place shortly. Official sources told The Hindu that the project cost estimated around Rs. seven crore would be obtained from the Modernisation of Police Force Scheme. Of the total expenditure, the Centre would bear 50 per cent comprising an equal share of loan and grant while the State Government would take care of the remaining amount.

The construction works planned under the project would be carried out by the Tamil Nadu Police Housing Corporation.

Under the scheme, 78 additional quarters would be constructed at Udumalpet at Rs. four crore. Similarly, a residential block to accommodate 48 police constables and two Sub-Inspectors has been planned in Tirupur town at about Rs. two crore.
