Correspondent

The event will be held at the constituency level to popularise government welfare schemes.

VIZIANAGARAM: In an attempt to popularise government welfare schemes, the Youth Congress will conduct constituency-level cricket tournaments here from January 7 to 14, according to district Youth Congress president I. Raghu Raju.

At a press conference here on Wednesday, Mr. Raju said State YC president T.J.R. Sudhakar Babu had taken a decision to conduct Rajiv Gandhi Memorial Cricket tournaments in all the 294 Assembly constituencies with an idea to propagate government schemes. He said the teams participating in the tournament would be named after each scheme like Indiramma, pavala vaddi, Arogya Sri and Indira Prabha. The finals will be on January 14. He said that the winners would be presented mementoes at the Youth Festival planned on January 25 at L.B. Stadium in Hyderabad.

The YC president said the Youth Congress and the NSUI would work to popularise the schemes and to strengthen the party. Mr. Raju said YC mandal-level committees would be appointed shortly. NSUI president S. Bangaru Naidu was present.
