33 boats to be purchased for rescue operations

TIRUCHI: In addition to the existing fleet of 30 boats, the Fire and Rescue Services Department has planned to buy 33 boats for use during floodswith the recent sanction of Rs. 5 crore, Additional Director General of Police and Director, Fire and Rescue Services, K.R. Shyamsundar, said on Tuesday.
The department has obtained a sky lift and other modern equipment for Rs. 21 crore. There are 283 fire staions now. The State Government has approved three more stations, he said.
Mr. Shyamsundar inspected the Divisional Fire Office to assess the physical training of personnel, their readiness for rescue operations, and records maintenance. The triennial inspection would be carried out at Vellore and Chennai, and the Tambaram Training Centre.
