BANGALORE: The Lokayukta police on Tuesday raided the houses of two officials who were accused of possessing assets disproportionate to their known sources of income. A gram panchayat secretary was caught in Gulbarga for allegedly accepting Rs. 2,000. The Lokayukta found assets worth Rs. 90.95 lakh from the house of Tulasiram, First Division Assistant in Sericulture Department, who had worked earlier as the personal assistant of Bidar South MLA Bandeppa Khashempur. Among his assets were a house and two sites in Shivanagar in Bidar, 37 acres of land and 21 Life Insurance Corporation policies. His locker in a Canara Bank branch in Bangalore and Syndicate Bank branch in Bidar are yet to be opened. Assets worth about Rs. 50.46 lakh were found from Odo Gangappa, Executive Engineer, Irrigation Department, Upper Tunga Project, Ranebennur. Among his assets were two houses and three sites in Davangere, 35.67 acres of land and Kisan Vikas Patras worth Rs. 10 lakh. GP secretary arrestedGram Panchayat Secretary of Khanapura, Narasimha Kambli, was arrested for allegedly accepting Rs. 2,000 from Ayyappa Padmaleela for releasing a cheque of Rs. 6,000. The cheque pertained to the compensation given to four persons who were injured during the clash between the Dalits and “upper” castes in 2003.
