JAIPUR: The Rajasthan Government has suspended two doctors on charges of negligence at an eye surgery camp in Ajmer district which led to severe eye infection among nearly 20 patients. The Government also announced monetary assistance of Rs.1 lakh each for those who have completely lost their vision. The suspended ophthalmologists are senior specialist Ashok Bansal and junior specialist Manju Gagran, posted at the Amrit Kaur Government Hospital in Beawar. The camp for eye lens transplants was held from December 19 to 22, at which 72 eye patients were operated upon. Seventeen of the patients were shifted to Sawai Man Singh Hospital here after they complained of infection. Many of them, who were operated upon again, are presently under observation of senior doctors. Guidelines soonState Medical and Health Minister Aimaduddin Ahmed Khan told The Hindu that an official protocol for operation theatres would shortly be evolved and guidelines formulated for eye camps.
