Entrepreneurs to be provided skill based training

Training to pave way for industrial development

TIRUVARUR: As many as 25 women entrepreneurs from various parts of Tamil Nadu have decided to establish small and medium scale industries in the Cauvery delta region of Tiruvarur district and each of them will get a minimum financial assistance of Rs.25 lakh for starting the units, said K. V. Rao, Assistant Director, MSME Development Institute (formerly Small Industries Service Institute), Chennai, here on Tuesday.

Addressing the six-week entrepreneurship development programme exclusively for 25 women organised by the MSME Development Institute of the Union Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Mr. Rao said that these women entrepreneurs would be provided skill based training – two weeks in general administration and four weeks special category industrial training in making paper products, food products and processing, manufacturing simple chemicals, ornamental jewels, coir products, apparel making, etc.

Mr. Rao pointed out that this training would pave way for the industrial development in the agriculture-oriented Tiruvarur district and said that these women entrepreneurs would be provided financial assistance by the banks and also through the District Industries Centre and National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development for starting their venture without difficulty.

S. Ravichandran, president. Tiruvarur District Small Scale Industries Association and also the president of MSME’s Tiruvarur Entrepreneur Club, said there was good scope for starting more small and medium scale industries, particularly in Mannargudi, Tiruvarur and Needamangalam areas.

He stressed the need for establishing the proposed industrial estate on 80-acre site at Vaipur village which would be a boon for industrial development, particularly agro-based industries. He said that the keen interest shown by these women entrepreneurs would provide employment opportunity to many.

V.A. Raghavan, District Development Manager, NABARD, in his special address, said that the NABARD would extend necessary assistance to the entrepreneurs for starting industrial units.

A. Deiveegan, General Manager, District Industries Centre, Tiruvarur, who presided over, said that loans could be provided to the women entrepreneurs under the Prime Minister Employment Generation Guarantee Programme and the DIC would provide the required assistance. R. Vivekanandan, general secretary of the Tiruvarur District Small Scale Industries Association, explained the industrial scope in the district.
