Dr. K.L. Shrimali, Union Minister for Education, presiding over the 34th session of the Indian Historical Records Commission in Trivandrum on December 31, stressed the need to unearth and study the vast mass of historical documents lying scattered throughout the country, in the hands of numberless individuals and in the numerous district record rooms. Also in the numerous district record rooms throughout the country, invaluable sources materials for the socio-economic and administrative history of the country remained inadequately arranged and often unavailable to the researcher. The State Governments and the Regional Record Survey Committees were doing their best to unearth maintain and rehabilitate those valued relics from India’s past which constituted the very stuff of history.
