St. Joseph’s lifts PSG Trophy

Coimbatore: St. Joseph’s College, Tiruchi, maintained a clean league slate to win the 32nd State level collegiate ball badminton tournament for the PSG Trophy at the PSG College of Arts and Science here on Wednesday.

St. Joseph’s got the better of host PSG CAS 29-24, 29-23 in its final league clash for the title. Jamal Mohammed College (Tiruchi) and Loyola College (Chennai) finished for the third and fourth places respectively.

The results: League: Jamal Mohd. (Tiruchi) bt Loyola College (Chennai) 29-24, 29-28; St. Joseph’s (Tiruchi) bt PSG CAS 29-24, 29-23. Final standing: 1. St. Joseph’s, 2. PSG CAS, 3. Jamal Mohd., 4 Loyola College.

Prema prevails

M. Prema of Salem scored a comfortable 11-8, 11-7, 11-6 win over Sumithra of Coimbatore and clinched the women’s 40-plus singles title in the State veterans’ table tennis championship at the YTTA Hall recently.

Murali elected president

R. Murali, Senior Manager (Finance & Accounts), Precot Meridian Ltd, was elected president of the Tamil Nadu Veterans’ Table Tennis Association at the YTTA hall recently.

Big win for NCC

At Udhagamandalam, a fine knock of 121 by Magesh saw NCC score a handsome 256-run win over Blossoms Cricket Club in the NDCA-HPF Rolling Trophy cricket tournament here on Tuesday.

The scores: NCC 379 for seven (Magesh 121, Timothy 52, Kanagarak 53, Ismail 75) bt Blossoms 123; Colts CC 295 for seven (John Samuel 111, Shanmugam 40) bt Sterling Biotech 266 (K.S. Ravi 123 not out, L. Ramesh 78); Young Stars CC 256 (Dharshan 133, Rafiq four for 39) bt Kent CC 241 (Christopher 80, Aruldass 56, Dharshan four for 50); Divis CC 162 (S. Manigandan 40) bt Don Bradman CC 142 (S. Manigandan six for 24).
