Intake for MPE course increased to 35 Services of resource persons and retired professors to be utilised Bangalore: Bangalore University’s Academic Council on Tuesday unanimously decided that Kannada would be included as a non-credit paper in the third semester of Bachelor of Hotel Management Course for the academic year 2009-10. According to a member of the council, the decision was taken keeping in mind outstation students who came to Karnataka to pursue education. The council also approved the proceedings of the expert committee formed to look into the requirement of teaching staff for all the five-year integrated courses. On faculty shortage, the council decided to utilise the services of resource persons and retired professors. The council approved the move to hire them with a pay of Rs. 15,000 a month. As per the norms of the University Grants Commission, guest lecturers would get Rs. 250 an hour. The intake for the Masters in Physical Education course had been increased from 30 to 35 for the benefit of in-service candidates. Regarding the enhancement of intake of MBA course at Canara Bank School of Management Studies, the council decided that the course had to be divided into two sections of 60 students each. With this, the intake for the MBA course had been increased to 120 students with effect from the 2008-09 academic year. The statutes for the creation of the additional teaching posts for the Postgraduate Department of Studies in Commerce for Masters in Tourism Administration, Masters in International Business and Masters in Finance and Accounting courses were also approved. Since the programmes were self-financing courses, the council decided to allow the recruitment of lectures on contract basis each year based on the UGC norms till permanent lectures were appointed.
