‘Form experts’ committee to promote Kannada’ ‘Literature should promote interests of all people’ Nitte (Udupi District): Chairman of the Janapada Academy Go. Ru. Channabasappa said on Wednesday that the State Government and legislators should put in more efforts to promote Kannada. He was delivering the valedictory address at the fifth Udupi District Kannada Sahitya Sammelan here. Mr. Channabasappa said that the Government should form an experts’ committee, comprising linguists, litterateurs, psychologists and others, to promote Kannada. He said that literature should promote the interests of all people. “People should hold literary meets to derive happiness from literature,” he said. “Many literary meets in cities were held just for the sake of publicity. But there was serious discussion and debate in the literary meets held in rural areas,” he said. Mr. Channabasappa said the classical tag for Kannada was not a big deal. It should have come to Kannada as its history was noteworthy, he added. Ganesh Karnik, MLC, welcomed the gathering. President of the Udupi District Kananda Sahitya Parishat Ambatanaya Mudrady; former president of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat Harikrishna Punaroor; president of the District Sahitya Sammelan Na. Mogasale; chairman of the Third Finance Commission A.G. Kodgi; Registrar of Nitte University Yogish Hegde, and principal of NMAM Institute of Technology S.Y. Kulkarni were present. Nine eminent persons were felicitated.
