SANGAREDDY: Superintendent of Police Mohd. Iqbal on Wednesday said that the police would concentrate on traffic control in the district which would result in reducing the accident rate. Speaking to reporters here, Mr. Iqbal said in addition to establishing check posts at different places, arranging speed regulators and controlling overloading of autos would be accorded top priority. Stating that 2008 was more peaceful, he said the crime rate had considerably decreased. Mr. Iqbal said industrial major Mahindra and Mahindra came forward to provide a vehicle for the district administration which would help trapped or injured persons from any accident site within no time by using gas cutters. The SP said road accidents, atrocities against women, robberies, thefts and other crimes were by and large less in number compared to the previous year, though police were deployed for various duties in other districts. The police had even helped farmers to fetch fertilizer when there was shortage in the district. Naxal movementReferring to the movement of naxals in the district, Mr. Iqbal said a former Janashakti naxal M. Srinivasa Reddy was reportedly moving in the border areas of Nizamabad district. Special attention was being paid to this, he said.
