Demand: Thenmozhi Jayapal, Municipal Chairperson, addressing the meeting of Thanjavur Municipality on Wednesday.

THANJAVUR: Thanjavur Municipal Council has adopted a resolution appealing to the Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi and Local Administration Minister M. K. Stalin to provide relief to flood affected people in all the wards of Thanjavur Municipality.

Thenmozhi Jayabal, Chairperson of the Council, moved the resolution which was adopted unanimously on Wednesday.

Heated exchanges between AIADMK and DMK members preceded the passing of resolution. AIADMK members said that when AIADMK was in power, during floods then, relief of Rs. 1,000 was given to all card holders.

Now list of beneficiaries prepared by the Municipal Commissioner was far less than the actual affected persons in the municipal area. DMK member S. Ramanathan said that during AIADMK regime relief was given to 49,000 card holders only out of a total of 75,000 card holders.

But this time the beneficiaries list has been prepared for 53,000 card holders.

All the members later suggested to pass a resolution and send it to Chief Minister and Local Administration Minister so that all the affected people get flood relief.
