Unmukhchand shines

VIJAYAWADA: Delhi was 214 for four in 92 overs at the close of the first day’s play in the quarterfinal match in the under-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy tournament against Andhra at Indore, according to information reaching here on Wednesday.

Delhi’s Unmukhchand scored 75 while Taran Gupta chipped in with 43. Andhra’s Sk. Md. Basha took two for 31.

The scores: Delhi 214 for four in 92 overs (Unmukhchand 75, Taran Gupta 43) vs. Andhra.

Satyavani to lead

Kurnool’s B.V. Satyavani will lead the Andhra Cricket Association’s senior team in the South Zone inter-State (two-day) tournament to be played at Anantapur from January 1 to 14, according to ACA secretary V. Chamundeswaranath.

Malleswara Rao wins

Vijayawada’s J. Malleswara Rao won the Happy New Year Global chess championship garnering 4.5 points out five rounds. Eluru’s D. Lakshmana Rao and Ravi Kumar took the second and third places respectively.

Good show by VRSEC

Velagapudi Ramakrishna Siddhartha Engineering College (VRSEC) students D. Sai Srinivas and D. Kiran Kumar secured first places in chess and shot-put events in the National-level youth festival organised by Vignan Engineering College at Vadlamudi on December 29 and 30.

The college basketball team secured second place. College principal Dr. K. Mohan Rao and Siddhartha Academy secretary P.L.N. Prasad congratulated the players.
