‘DMRC has been asked to provide parking for two-wheelers and cycles at the station’ DUAC suggests barrier-free access to the physically challenged NEW DELHI: The Delhi Urban Arts Commission has sent back to the drawing board several blueprints submitted by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation for upcoming and under-construction stations. Reviewing the proposed station designs at some of the under-construction metro stretches, the DUAC has sought more detailing in design. According to sources, the location of the bus stop of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor in respect of entry to the metro station at Lajpat Nagar on the Central Secretariat-Badarpur line needs revision. The entry to the station at Defence Colony too needs to be shifted towards the road coming from the local market, the Commission has suggested. “The DUAC was of the view that architectural detailing of the station needs more attention and the designs of windows and railing need to be in proportion. The DMRC has also been asked to provide parking for two-wheelers and cycles at the station,” said sources. To make sure there is dedicated space for bicycles and pedestrians approaching the station, the Commission has asked the DMRC to ensure continuity of footpaths and bicycle tracks along the BRT corridor and rework the drop-off points. Another issue the DUAC raised was disabled-friendly access to metro stations. It has suggested barrier-free access to the physically challenged and asked the DMRC to adhere to the Central Public Works Department guidelines that specify the elements of building design necessary for making these structures accessible to the disabled,” sources pointed out. Putting forth some suggestions on barrier-free access, the DUAC asked the DMRC to provide the necessary gradient for ramps and easy access for the physically challenged to public conveniences at all stations. “At some locations, the DMRC has been asked to rework traffic planning outside the stations. The Corporation has been asked to assess the footfalls expected at various stations so that adequate infrastructure required for the movement of metro passengers is provided for,” sources said.
