ISLAMABAD: Despite the current tensions, India and Pakistan exchanged lists of their nuclear installations through their diplomatic missions here and in New Delhi on Thursday. The annual New Year’s day exchange takes place under the 1988 Agreement on Prohibition of Attacks against Nuclear Installations and Facilities. The exchange has taken place religiously every year since 1991, when the agreement was ratified, even when relations between the two countries were at the lowest point. Pakistan’s Foreign Affairs ministry handed over a list of the country’s nuclear installations and facilities to an official of the Indian High Commission here. Simultaneously, in New Delhi, the Ministry of External Affairs provided a list of the Indian installations to an official of the Pakistan High Commission. The two countries also exchanged lists of each other’s nationals in their prisons, which the two governments have agreed to do in order to facilitate early release of the prisoners.
