SALEM: Salem Corporation along with the police has made security arrangements to prevent the illegal mining of magnesite stones from its land allotted for the establishment of a modern compost yard in Chettichavadi near here. Corporation Commissioner K.S. Palanisamy said the civic officials had already seized magnesite stones, which were illegally mined in Chettichavadi and detained two lorries, found being used for transporting the stones. A case was also registered with the police. Stern action would be initiated against persons if they were found illegally mining in the civic body’s land. The stones seized by the civic body would be auctioned with the help of the Deputy Director (Minerals) shortly, he added.
