dated January 3, 1959: Higher Education Institute

The Southern Higher Technological Institute will start functioning in Madras from July this year and 100 students would be selected to constitute the first batch. It might be recalled that the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany have agreed to co-operate in the establishment of this Institute, the third in the chain of the Higher Technological institutions to be established by the Central Government, by supplying equipment of the value approximately of Rs.1.8 crores and by giving technical assistance by way of professors and teachers for the institute.
