Belgaum
At peace: People at Swami Ramdev’s yoga camp in Belgaum on Saturday. Belgaum: Saturday morning was unusual in the city. Hundreds of men and women, young boys and girls and children woke up early to rush to the district stadium to attend a special Yoga-Science camp organised by the Divya Yoga Trust, Patanjali Peetha, Haridwar, in association with the KLE Society, Belgaum. By 5 a.m., the stadium was full. The six-day camp, which began with the chanting of the mystical syllable “Om”, conveying life and energy, is one of the last few to be conducted during the year by Swami Ramdev, a Yoga practitioner, who heads the trust. He has decided not to conduct any such camps outside the trust’s headquarters in Haridwar from next year onwards. KLES chairman and MP Prabhakar Kore, who inaugurated the camp, said the event was organised in fulfilment of KLES’ social responsibility initiatives in the field of health. He said the benefits of the fusion of science and Yoga should reach the common man so that people remained healthy. In his opening remarks, Swami Ramdev said yoga had proved to be a science and had nothing to do with any religion. Its practice, particularly “Pranayama”, helped one not only find effective solutions to several diseases but also in acute-disease and stress management. He said as many as 40 Ayurvedic experts from the Patanjali Peetha were camping in the city, from whom advice could be obtained. The KLES Prabhakar Kore Hospital has arranged for medical investigation at concessional rates for the benefit of participants. A large number of people from neighbouring States such as Maharashtra and Goa are also participating in the camp.
